Fast-paced and played in doubles, padel is a racquet sport soaring in popularity. Combining elements of tennis and squash, it’s played on 20m x 10m courts, where surrounding walls form part of the game itself. Originally invented in Mexico in 1969, padel has evolved into one of the world’s fastest-growing sports.
Its accessibility, social nature, and low impact play have seen it become increasingly popular over the past few years, with beginners able to pick up the basics in minutes. Solid, stringless paddles are the racket of choice, and play consists of exciting rallies where the wall can be used to strategically extend points, and recover seemingly lost shots.
Padel rewards teamwork and quick thinking; it’s as enjoyable to watch as it is to play.
